Foundation Year 23-24

On Monday 24 June 2024, in the setting of the Aula del '400, the final diplomas were handed over to the 100 students who passed University of Pavia's Foundation Year program for the year 2023/24, the sixth edition.

The Foundation Year program, which has been launched in  2018, is a propaedeutic course that helps international students meet the entry requirements for the Italian university system, offering courses in Italian and in different areas of study. The most represented nationalities among those enrolled in the University of Pavia's Foundation Year are those from Russia and former Soviet countries, followed by Myanmar, the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America.

The closing event was an opportunity to look back over the students' experiences during their year of study at the University of Pavia and to celebrate their achievements.

The Rector's delegate Prof. Axel Berkowski expressed his pride at the students' achievement, emphasising that these nine months had been a challenge faced with commitment and resilience.

"The path you have taken has not been easy," said the delegate, "but you have shown extraordinary determination and resilience. Each difficulty you have overcome has helped shape your skills, making you ready to face the new challenges of the university course."

Course director Prof. Ilaria Fiorentini:

"You have created a unique learning environment, where differences have become strengths and global perspectives have enriched us all. This experience has prepared you not only for university, but to be citizens of the world."

Coordinator Elena Voltan called the Foundation Year programme "the world in a classroom", highlighting the cultural diversity and international perspectives the students brought with them.

Already 50 students have chosen to enrol in a degree course at the University of Pavia for the next academic year, a tangible sign of the success of the programme and the trust placed in the institution.

Sincere thanks were also extended to all the staff, lecturers and tutors who made this course possible.

"Your dedication, patience and passion played a key role in the success of the students," the director concluded, "Thank you for believing in them and supporting them at every stage of their journey."

The event ended with a warm round of applause, a group photo and renewed hope for the future of the students, who are ready to embark on new academic and professional paths, strengthened by the experiences and skills they have acquired during Foundation Year.
